MPA Singapore, China bolster maritime partnership
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has signed three
Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with regional maritime administrations and
partners in China to further collaboration on decarbonisation,
digitalisation, talent development, and
information sharing.

The MoUs were signed at the Port Authorities Roundtable 2023 hosted in
Shanghai and at the sidelines of 3rd Global Sustainability Transport Forum in
Beijing.
The MoU between MPA and the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission
was announced on 22 September 2023 at the North Bund Forum in Shanghai, and
signed on 24 September 2023 at the Port Authorities Roundtable 2023.
Teo Eng Dih, Chief Executive of MPA, and Yu Fulin, Director General of
Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, signed the MoU.
The MoU seeks to expand port and marine links in order to stimulate mutual
learning through information sharing on port and shipping developments, maritime
rules and regulations, as well as training and research.
The collaboration also intends to develop digitisation and decarbonisation
solutions for maritime and port development. Shanghai is also one of China’s
major transshipment hubs due to its involvement in the development of the
Yangtze River delta.
This month, the Port of Rotterdam Authority, MPA, and 20 partners in the
Green & Digital Shipping Corridor partnered to reduce emissions from
international shipping by 2030.
