French LNG containment specialist GTT has received \u20ac4.66 million <\/p>\n

($4.9 million) in funding for the development of a CO2<\/sub> capture system and <\/p>\n

intelligent operational performance solutions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The funding comes from Bpifrance as part of the MerVent 2025 project, which <\/p>\n

aims to design, build, and operate the world\u2019s first commercial containership <\/p>\n

with hybrid wind-assisted and synthetic fuel propulsion by 2025.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The project is a consortium of multiple organisations including ship owner <\/p>\n

Z\u00e9phyr & Bor\u00e9e, wing-sail designer and manufacturer CWS, the Centrale Nantes <\/p>\n

University with its energy optimisation research teams, OSE Engineering (a <\/p>\n

subsidiary of GTT), and GTT itself.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

GTT will be responsible for designing the CO2<\/sub> capture system, which will <\/p>\n

aim to capture at least 30 per cent of the CO2<\/sub> emissions from alternative fuels <\/p>\n

such as LNG, methanol, e-GNL, and bioGNL.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This will contribute to the project\u2019s goal of reducing CO2<\/sub> emissions by at <\/p>\n

least 50 per cent for this type of vessel.<\/p>\n

In addition, GTT will develop intelligent operational performance solutions <\/p>\n

to enhance the overall efficiency and sustainability of the ship.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cThis design of a commercial containership with hybrid wind-assisted <\/p>\n

propulsion and synthetic fuel is the forerunner of a new generation of <\/p>\n

carbon-free merchant ships thanks to a highly innovative ship design, a hybrid <\/p>\n

propulsion and an on-board CO2<\/sub> capture system adapted to the alternative fuels <\/p>\n

currently being considered by the shipping industry,\u201d said Philippe <\/p>\n

Berterotti\u00e8re, Chairman and CEO of GTT.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are proud to bring the know-how and experience of the GTT group to the <\/p>\n

development of a low environmental impact containership. Our digital <\/p>\n

intelligence subsidiary, OSE Engineering, will also play an essential role in <\/p>\n

this project, enabling the operational optimisation of the ship\u2019s various <\/p>\n

propulsion systems.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In October 2022, GTT signed a Technical Assistance and License Agreement <\/p>\n

with China Merchants Heavy Industries-Jiangsu (CMHI-Jiangsu), a subsidiary of <\/p>\n

China Merchants Industry Holdings (CMI), enabling the yard to construct vessels <\/p>\n

using GTT membrane technologies.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

GTT and China Merchant Industry Holdings have been cooperating for a <\/p>\n

decade, with a first Technical Service Agreement signed in 2013 for the <\/p>\n
