Brazilian maritime logistics operator, Wilson Sons, has selected <\/p>\n

ABB\u2019s Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system and QuayPro module to be <\/p>\n

employed at the Rio Grande container terminal.<\/strong><\/p>\n

ABB\u2019s OCR system will be utilised for the ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes <\/p>\n

at the terminal, and the QuayPro module will be used to digitalise container <\/p>\n

stowage confirmation processes.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The OCR system automates the process of capturing data as containers are <\/p>\n

loaded and discharged by STS cranes.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Using ABB\u2019s advanced AI imaging technology, the system captures container <\/p>\n

numbers, ISO codes, door orientation, bolt seal presence and hazardous material <\/p>\n

labels, as well as recording images for damage inspection purposes.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The module determines the actual stowage position of containers during <\/p>\n

vessel loading operations, providing input to the terminal operating system to <\/p>\n

create an accurate outbound BAPLIE (bayplan\/stowage plan occupied and empty <\/p>\n

locations message) file, in addition to confirming the accuracy of inbound stow <\/p>\n

positions.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Any deviation from the load or discharge plan is reported in real time, <\/p>\n

meanwhile crane drivers receive audiovisual work instructions, enabling the <\/p>\n

terminal to adapt to dynamic variations.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Adding the OCR system with QuayPro to the existing gate system supports the <\/p>\n

terminal\u2019s vision to automate and digitalise its processes.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The combination of ABB\u2019s OCR system and the QuayPro module makes it <\/p>\n

possible to streamline the stowage confirmation process and thus increase <\/p>\n

operational productivity.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

container terminal.<\/p>\n

The company has been using ABB\u2019s automated gate systems both at its Rio <\/p>\n

Grande and Salvador container terminals since 2013.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cABB Crane OCR gives us an efficiency edge while the ability to streamline <\/p>\n

the stowage process automatically represents a productivity differentiator,\u201d <\/p>\n

said Giovanni Phonlor, Operations Director of the Rio Grande container <\/p>\n

terminal.<\/p>\n

\u201cMinimising the risk of error on data entry means more efficient <\/p>\n

operations,\u201d Phonlor added.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The operational solution includes ABB MatchMaker which identifies the <\/p>\n

terminal trucks, allowing for the automated handoff between crane and terminal <\/p>\n

vehicles.<\/p>\n

In July 2021, ABB deployed a new online platform using cloud-based <\/p>\n

analytics and data visualisation to optimise ship performance.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In August 2021, Wilson Sons incorporated the IMO TIER III standard in the <\/p>\n
