The Net Zero Technology Centre and ERM have announced the launch of <\/p>\n

the Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) for Hydrogen Transport from Scotland <\/p>\n

(LHyTS) project.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"HYDROGEN<\/strong><\/p>\n

The project, announced on 14 December, will play a key role in the export <\/p>\n

of hydrogen from Scotland to Rotterdam.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Through providing an export route to several European destinations, <\/p>\n

including Rotterdam, this project seeks to demonstrate that LOHC, in the form of <\/p>\n

methylcyclohexane (MCH), can be successfully transported at scale.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The project will be delivered by a diverse, international consortium, <\/p>\n

including Axens, Chiyoda, EnQuest, ERM, Koole Terminals, Port of Rotterdam, <\/p>\n

Scottish Government, Shetland Islands Council, Storegga and the Net Zero <\/p>\n

Technology Centre.<\/p>\n

the centre of developing a major contribution to achieving zero emissions <\/p>\n

energy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Europe,\u201d Executive Vice President New Development & Transformation at Axens, <\/p>\n

Patrick Sarrazin, added.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Together, the partners will undertake engineering studies with the goal of <\/p>\n

creating a pilot project as a prelude to large-scale export.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Hydrogen will facilitate various decarbonisation applications.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Falling in line with the Scottish Government\u2019s hydrogen policy statement, <\/p>\n

this project will generate 5 Gigawatts of renewable and low-carbon hydrogen by <\/p>\n

2030, and 25 gigawatt by 2045.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

UK Government Minister for Scotland, John Lamont, said: \u201cAlong with <\/p>\n

Scottish Government, the UK Government is investing \u00a3180 million ($223 million) <\/p>\n

in the Net Zero Technology Centre to support the projects that can deliver our <\/p>\n

energy transition.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The European Commission has also set a goal of importing 10 million tonnes <\/p>\n

of hydrogen by 2030.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Port of Rotterdam imports 13 per cent of Europe\u2019s energy and has <\/p>\n

ambitions to become the Hydrogen Hub of Europe.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The port will draw on its extensive import, export, and storage <\/p>\n

infrastructure, established energy industry supply chain and pipeline <\/p>\n

connections to other industrial clusters in northwest Europe to achieve <\/p>\n

this.<\/p>\n

Project Manager at the Net Zero Technology Centre, Hayleigh Barnett, said: <\/p>\n

\u201cEarly stage studies in this project have concluded that LOHC has several <\/p>\n

advantages over other carrier forms, such as ammonia, methanol or liquid <\/p>\n

hydrogen.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cScotland is extremely fit for the production of green hydrogen, because of <\/p>\n

its abundance of wind and the demand at the continent nearby. On top of that, <\/p>\n

the area is one of the heartlands of the oil and energy sector. That ecosystem <\/p>\n

of knowledge, infrastructure and companies will help to kickstart the hydrogen <\/p>\n

economy,\u201d said Director International of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, Ren\u00e9 <\/p>\n
