A.P. Moller \u2013 Maersk (Maersk) has entered a green methanol <\/p>\n

partnership with US-based project developer Carbon Sink LLC.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"MAERSK,<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is Maersk\u2019s eighth such agreement in a bid to accelerate global <\/p>\n

production of green methanol.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The parties have signed a Letter of Intent covering the development by <\/p>\n

Carbon Sink of green methanol production facilities in the US.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The first facility will be co-located with the Red River Energy existing <\/p>\n

bioethanol plant in Rosholt, South Dakota, and will have a production capacity <\/p>\n

of approximately 100,000 tonnes per year.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The commercial start is anticipated in 2027 and Maersk intends to purchase <\/p>\n

the full volume produced at the plant, with options for the output of subsequent <\/p>\n

Carbon Sink facilities at other locations.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cSecuring green fuels at scale in this decade is critical in our fleet <\/p>\n

decarbonisation efforts,\u201d said Berit Hinnemann, Head of Green Fuels Sourcing, <\/p>\n

Maersk.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have set a 2040 net zero target for our entire business \u2013 but <\/p>\n

importantly to stay in line with the Paris Agreement, we have also set 2030 <\/p>\n

targets to ensure meaningful progress in this decade.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Carbon Sink uses a commercially available technology to produce green <\/p>\n

methanol by combining green hydrogen from electrolysis of water using additional <\/p>\n

renewable electricity and biogenic CO2.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The CO2 for the first project will be waste CO2 captured from the Red River <\/p>\n

Energy bio-ethanol plant, recycling those emissions into green methanol.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

to help them achieve their ambitious corporate goals.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cOur multi-project development strategy creates a pathway for the supply of <\/p>\n

significant volumes of green methanol to help meet the demand of Maersk\u2019s <\/p>\n

growing dual-fuel ship fleet.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Carbon Sink joins seven other strategic partners working to secure the <\/p>\n

green fuel needed for the 19 container vessels Maersk currently has on order <\/p>\n

which are capable of operating on green methanol.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Maersk Performance Team recently installed two new electric vehicle (EV) <\/p>\n

charging stations in Los Angeles County.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The stations will serve the current fleet of 24 EV trucks and 36 in total <\/p>\n
