The first-ever direct container service connecting China and <\/p>\n

Scotland has berthed at Greenock Ocean Terminal after its maiden <\/p>\n

voyage.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"First<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new east and west bound freight route from Ningbo, China, arrived for <\/p>\n

the first time at Scotland\u2019s deepest container terminal on 27 August.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The service \u2013 a partnership between KC Liner Agencies, DKT Allseas and <\/p>\n

China Xpress \u2013 transported imports including textiles, furniture, and toys for <\/p>\n

the Scottish market.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The vessel has later departed on its route back to China transporting cases <\/p>\n

of whiskey.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s great to finally welcome this vital service to Greenock Ocean <\/p>\n

Terminal,\u201d said Jim McSporran, Clydeport Director at Peel Ports.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cOur terminal is the perfect fit for such a global trade connection, and <\/p>\n

this is again shown by the significant volumes we will be helping ship back to <\/p>\n

China.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe this partnership will prove to be a hugely positive development <\/p>\n

for businesses and customers, as well as boosting the wider supply chain, and we <\/p>\n

look forward to continuing to work with our partners on this service in the <\/p>\n

coming months.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to a recent statement from Peel Ports, the direct China-Scotland <\/p>\n

sailings will significantly reduce transit times, compared to feeder services <\/p>\n

via continental Europe or other southern UK ports.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Sailings will take place per month in each direction, calling at Ningbo, <\/p>\n

and the Chinese city of Shenzhen, before arriving in Greenock via the container <\/p>\n

terminal at the Port of Liverpool.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The route will be operated by six ships of about 1,600 TEU.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cWe knew China Xpress was a service needed by many sectors, but still, <\/p>\n

we\u2019ve been amazed at the level of immediate interest,\u201d added David Milne, KC <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been a phenomenal success for KC Group Shipping, but this is just the <\/p>\n

first of many journeys and we need the support of Scottish importers and <\/p>\n

exporters to safeguard the long-term future of this new service.<\/p>\n

delays which is a massive boost for Scottish businesses and can only help <\/p>\n

consumers in these difficult times.\u201d<\/p>\n

Greenock Ocean Terminal currently has a throughput of 100,000 TEU a <\/p>\n

year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe freight side of Greenock Ocean Terminal can often be overshadowed and <\/p>\n

sometimes forgotten about because of the busy cruise ship schedule,\u201d said <\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision by KC Shipping to establish this direct link from Greenock to <\/p>\n

China \u2013 the first in Scotland \u2013 combined with the visitor centre development and <\/p>\n

ambitious Clyde Green Freeport bid is a ringing endorsement of Greenock and <\/p>\n

Inverclyde as an important location for exports, imports and visitors and long <\/p>\n

may that continue.\u201d<\/p>\n
