The Port of Nansha, China has begun operations of its fully <\/p>\n

automated terminal, the first of tis kind in the Guangdong\u2013Hong Kong\u2013Macau <\/p>\n

Greater Bay Area.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to Guangzhou Port Group (GPG), this is part of the fourth phase <\/p>\n

of the modernisation project at the Port of Nansha, combining multimodal <\/p>\n

services related to sea, river, and railway transportation.<\/p>\n

The fourth phase of the port also includes four 100,000 metric-ton berths <\/p>\n

and supporting container barge berths.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The terminal began operations on 28 July.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cThe terminal, which features smart and independent operations and <\/p>\n

low-carbon emissions, has contributed to the promotion of automated wharf <\/p>\n

technology,\u201d said GPG Chairman Li Yibo at the launching ceremony.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Li added that the new automated terminal \u201cwill help enhance the function of <\/p>\n

the international comprehensive transportation hub and provide strong support <\/p>\n

for Nansha to build itself into a major strategic high-level shipping and <\/p>\n

logistics platform in the Greater Bay Area, in coordination with Hong Kong and <\/p>\n

Macao.\u201d<\/p>\n

The terminal is set to have an annual throughput capacity of 4.9 million <\/p>\n

TEU, bringing the total throughput of Nansha port to over 24 million TEU.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The port\u2019s fully automated container terminal features fully automated <\/p>\n

gantry cranes and self-driving trucks.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Looking at promoting sustainability across the industry, the terminal also <\/p>\n

implements smart solutions and technologies to achieve zero emissions.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In June, COSCO SHIPPING Lines launched paperless cargo release service at <\/p>\n

GPG\u2019s Huangpu Xinsha Terminal.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The news followed the extensive promotion of blockchain-based paperless <\/p>\n

cargo release at Nansha Phase II Terminal.<\/p>\n
