Singapore has deployed its first energy storage system (ESS) to <\/p>\n

enable more energy efficient port operations at the Pasir Panjang <\/p>\n

Terminal.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The project is part of an $8 million partnership between the Energy Market <\/p>\n

Authority (EMA) and PSA Corporation Ltd (PSA) to transform PSA\u2019s energy usage in <\/p>\n

port operations using smart grid technologies and energy management systems.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This ESS is part of the Smart Grid Management System (SGMS), which aims to <\/p>\n

improve the energy efficiency of port operations by 2.5 per cent and reduce <\/p>\n

Pasir Panjang terminal\u2019s carbon footprint by 1,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent per <\/p>\n

annum.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

PSA said it has awarded the project to Envision Digital, who will develop <\/p>\n

the SGMS that includes the ESS and solar photovoltaic panels.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The platform will use machine learning to provide real-time automated <\/p>\n

forecasting of the terminal\u2019s energy demand to enable long-term planning of port <\/p>\n

assets, short-term scheduling and real-time energy management within the <\/p>\n

terminal.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a premier hub port driving innovation, digitalisation and <\/p>\n

sustainability, PSA can play an active role in contributing and co-creating <\/p>\n

Singapore\u2019s smart grid architecture and energy systems,\u201d said Alvin Foo, Head of <\/p>\n

New Technologies and Sustainability at PSA.<\/p>\n

collaborative innovation with our partners for greater resilience in our energy <\/p>\n

future.\u201d<\/p>\n

PSA added that during periods when the ESS is not used to manage demand, <\/p>\n

the platform will participate in the National Electricity Market of Singapore to <\/p>\n

provide ancillary services to the power grid and to generate revenue.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

PSA and Ocean Network Express Pte. Ltd (ONE) recently announced their <\/p>\n

collaboration on recovering and recycling refrigerant gas from refrigerated <\/p>\n

containers (reefers) as part of an initiative to create a greener supply <\/p>\n

chain<\/a>.<\/p>\n
