{"id":1301,"date":"2026-01-30T09:56:38","date_gmt":"2026-01-30T01:56:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hajomech.com\/france-china-forge-first-green-shipping-corridor\/"},"modified":"2026-01-30T09:56:38","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T01:56:38","slug":"france-china-forge-first-green-shipping-corridor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.hajomech.com\/france-china-forge-first-green-shipping-corridor\/","title":{"rendered":"France, China forge first green shipping corridor"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"max-width:900px; margin:0 auto; background-color:rgb(246,246,246); padding:20px;line-height:30px\">\n<p>HAROPA PORT, Zhejiang Provincial Seaport Group, MSC and partners have <\/p>\n<p>signed a strategic agreement to launch the first green shipping corridor between <\/p>\n<p>France and China.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hajomech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/1769737542353423-1.jpg\" alt=\"France, China forge first green shipping corridor\" title=\"France, China forge first green shipping corridor\" style=\"width: 100%; height: 100%; padding: 20px 0px;\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Other partners include Bureau Veritas Marine &amp; Offshore (BV), China <\/p>\n<p>Waterborne Transport Research Institute and Terminal Investment Limited <\/p>\n<p>(TiL).<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>This initiative aligns with the International Maritime Organization\u2019s (IMO) <\/p>\n<p>2023 strategy for achieving carbon neutrality by or around 2050, the Paris <\/p>\n<p>Agreement (COP21), the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, <\/p>\n<p>the Franco-Chinese initiative for a green and low-carbon maritime industry, as <\/p>\n<p>well as the Clydebank Declaration, of which France is a signatory.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>China is HAROPA PORT\u2019s leading trading partner, accounting for 30 per cent <\/p>\n<p>of its container traffic. Ningbo Zhoushan Port, the world\u2019s largest port by <\/p>\n<p>total cargo tonnage and the third largest in terms of container throughput, <\/p>\n<p>represents 22 per cent of this volume. Given the high level of trade between the <\/p>\n<p>two ports, this green corridor will contribute significantly to the <\/p>\n<p>decarbonisation of maritime transport.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>This strategic agreement is a tangible example of how ports, shipping lines <\/p>\n<p>and terminal operators are working together to reduce the carbon footprint of <\/p>\n<p>maritime transport as much as possible. The agreement notably provides <\/p>\n<p>opportunities for:<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\" list-paddingleft-2\" style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li>\n<p>\u3000\u3000The deployment of shore-side electricity connections for vessels<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>\u3000\u3000The progressive electrification of terminals and port equipment using <\/p>\n<p>renewable or low-carbon energy sources<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>\u3000\u3000The establishment of alternative fuel supply chains (such as LNG, bio-LNG, <\/p>\n<p>green ammonia and green hydrogen)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>\u3000\u3000The development of low-carbon hinterland connections, particularly via <\/p>\n<p>inland waterway and rail transport<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>\u3000\u3000The exploration of on-board CCUS (carbon capture, utilisation and storage) <\/p>\n<p>pilot projects<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The strategic agreement serves as an operational framework for mobilising <\/p>\n<p>all stakeholders across the maritime value chain.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs France\u2019s leading port for international trade and a strategic gateway <\/p>\n<p>for Asia\u2013Europe flows, HAROPA PORT carries a key responsibility in driving the <\/p>\n<p>maritime energy transition,\u201d said Beno\u00eet Rochet, Chief Executive Officer of <\/p>\n<p>HAROPA PORT.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this corridor, we are laying the foundations for a decarbonised sea <\/p>\n<p>route between China and France.
