The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) and CALSTART have <\/p>\n

launched two incentive programmes worth a combined $45 million to support the <\/p>\n

electrification of drayage and terminal operations.<\/p>\n

\"PANYNJ<\/p>\n

The programmes will provide funding for zero-emission drayage trucks, <\/p>\n

terminal tractors and the charging infrastructure required to operate them at <\/p>\n

the Port of New York and New Jersey.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

CALSTART will design and administer both initiatives from autumn 2026. The <\/p>\n

Clean Truck Incentive Programme will offer up to $39 million in point-of-sale <\/p>\n

vouchers for zero-emission drayage trucks, yard tractors and supporting charging <\/p>\n

equipment.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Under the separate $5 million Green Drayage Accelerator Programme, funding <\/p>\n

will be awarded for up to five electric truck charging hubs. Eligible sites must <\/p>\n

be within 10 miles of PANYNJ seaport or marine terminal facilities.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Market Acceleration, said: \u201cDeploying zero-emission trucks at scale requires <\/p>\n

pairing accessible vehicle incentives with reliable, high-capacity charging.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy combining flexible financial support with streamlined program <\/p>\n

administration, our partnership with the Port Authority lowers the barrier to <\/p>\n

entry for drayage operators, modernizing the East Coast supply chain while <\/p>\n

delivering immediate, tangible air quality improvements to local port <\/p>\n

communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

CALSTART will also develop dynamic tracking dashboards for both programmes. <\/p>\n

The systems will monitor vehicle deployment and performance, together with <\/p>\n

charger use across port operations, before being transferred to PANYNJ in <\/p>\n

2028.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The two organisations plan to brief the trucking community through <\/p>\n

in-person and online presentations, supported by information materials, over the <\/p>\n

coming weeks.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Funding comes from a $451 million grant awarded to PANYNJ through the US <\/p>\n

Environmental Protection Agency\u2019s Clean Ports Programme. PANYNJ described it as <\/p>\n

the largest sustainability grant in its history.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The wider grant will also support electric cargo-handling equipment at <\/p>\n

marine terminals and shoreside power infrastructure, allowing container ships to <\/p>\n

connect to the electricity supply while berthed and switch off their auxiliary <\/p>\n

engines.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A separate $3 million EPA planning grant will fund a Port Community <\/p>\n

Advisory Council. Subrecipients of the overall award will also be able to pursue <\/p>\n

workforce training and job creation linked to clean energy.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

PANYNJ has set a target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and is seeking <\/p>\n

to help tenants, contractors and operating partners meet the same deadline.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Its 2024 air emissions inventory recorded a 98 per cent reduction in <\/p>\n

sulphur dioxide and reductions of more than 83 per cent in nitrogen oxide and <\/p>\n

particulate matter against 2006 levels. Cargo volumes increased by nearly 71 per <\/p>\n
