The Port of Klaip\u0117da is carrying out a major project to support Lithuania\u2019s <\/p>\n

plans to develop offshore wind farms.<\/p>\n

Quays are now being constructed in the area of the former International <\/p>\n

Ferry Terminal.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Back in May 2022, the Klaip\u0117da Port Authority and cargo handling company <\/p>\n

Klasco signed an investment agreement, launching the development of port <\/p>\n

infrastructure needed for Lithuania\u2019s future offshore wind projects.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The project at Klaip\u0117da Port is scheduled for completion by the end of <\/p>\n

2026.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

By 2035, two offshore wind parks with a combined capacity of around 1.4 <\/p>\n

gigawatts (GW) are expected to be operating in Lithuania\u2019s exclusive economic <\/p>\n

zone of the Baltic Sea near Palanga.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Together they could generate up to 6 terawatt-hours (TWh) of green <\/p>\n

electricity a year \u2013 enough to cover around half of Lithuania\u2019s current <\/p>\n

electricity demand.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The first tender for a 700 megawatt (MW) offshore wind park was announced <\/p>\n

on 30 March 2023. The winners were a joint venture between Ignitis Renewables <\/p>\n

and OW Offshore S.L.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Algis Latakas, CEO of the Klaip\u0117da State Seaport Authority, said: \u201cKlaip\u0117da <\/p>\n

Port is moving with Lithuania\u2019s ambitions to build offshore wind parks in the <\/p>\n

Baltic Sea.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re preparing to become a key base for this project \u2013 setting up areas <\/p>\n

where turbine components can be assembled, handled and stored.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cRight now, in the southern part of the port at the former International <\/p>\n

Ferry Terminal, the constructor Tilsta is carrying out the first stage of <\/p>\n

infrastructure works \u2013 reconstructing quays.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month, Klaip\u0117da State Seaport Authority secured a quay lease at <\/p>\n

Jurbarkas, setting the stage for the creation of a new inland cargo port along <\/p>\n
