The Klaip\u0117da State Seaport Authority has commissioned the move of <\/p>\n

the first ever green hydrogen and electricity-powered ship in Lithuania from a <\/p>\n

shipyard into the water.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In June 2024, a keel-laying ceremony at the West Baltic Shipyard of the <\/p>\n

West Baltic Shipyard Group marked the start of the ship\u2019s construction.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The hull has been fabricated and painted, with piping, valves, coolers, <\/p>\n

shaft lines, rudder feathers, and heat and fire insulation installed.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Once the tanker is moved into the water, the engine room equipment will be <\/p>\n

installed, the interior of the wheelhouse will be redecorated, the electrical <\/p>\n

wiring and the main electrical engines will be installed, the hydrogen system <\/p>\n

will be installed and other work necessary for the operation of the ship will be <\/p>\n

carried out.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to the current rules, vessels must hand over the waste they <\/p>\n

produce when they arrive and before they leave Klaip\u0117da Port. The Seaport <\/p>\n

Authority was entrusted with the collection of waste, and the company decided to <\/p>\n

use modern and environmentally friendly equipment further to improve the quality <\/p>\n

of the ship waste collection service.<\/p>\n

The tanker\u2019s main function is to collect stormwater, sewage, sludge and <\/p>\n

garbage, as well as to ensure efficient waste management. The ship will be <\/p>\n

equipped with special tanks and a modern rainwater treatment plant that will <\/p>\n

allow the treated water to be transferred to the city\u2019s sewage treatment plants. <\/p>\n

The tanker will be ready to work around the clock and collect up to 400 cubic <\/p>\n

metres of liquid waste.<\/p>\n

The tanker is 42 metres long and 10 metres wide. The ship\u2019s power system <\/p>\n

will consist of two electric motors powered by 2,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) <\/p>\n

batteries and a hydrogen fuel cell system. Depending on the intensity of the <\/p>\n

work, the tanker will be able to operate in the port of Klaip\u0117da for up to 36 <\/p>\n

hours without additional power charging.<\/p>\n

This ship-building project, which has a total value of \u20ac12 million ($12.5 <\/p>\n

million), has been commissioned by the Port Authority and is being built by West <\/p>\n

Baltic Shipyard together with Baltic Workboats under a joint operating <\/p>\n

agreement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis first-ever hydrogen and electricity-powered ship is not only an <\/p>\n

innovative technological solution but also an important step in strengthening <\/p>\n

Lithuania\u2019s image as a modern maritime nation. At the moment, the tanker is <\/p>\n

getting used to the seaport water, so to speak, and at the end of the year we <\/p>\n

expect it to start its important mission of taking care of the clean seaport <\/p>\n

environment.<\/p>\n

Last summer, a Memorandum was signed in Klaip\u0117da, providing for closer <\/p>\n

cooperation in decision-making on developing the new European gauge railway line <\/p>\n
