{"id":425,"date":"2024-12-16T09:29:16","date_gmt":"2024-12-16T01:29:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hajomech.com\/apmt-barcelona-progresses-in-terminal-electrification\/"},"modified":"2024-12-16T09:29:16","modified_gmt":"2024-12-16T01:29:16","slug":"apmt-barcelona-progresses-in-terminal-electrification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.hajomech.com\/apmt-barcelona-progresses-in-terminal-electrification\/","title":{"rendered":"APMT Barcelona progresses in terminal electrification"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"max-width:900px; margin:0 auto; background-color:rgb(246,246,246); padding:20px;line-height:30px\">\n<p><strong><strong>APM Terminals (APMT) has made progress towards decreasing <\/p>\n<p>GHG emissions in Spain, with the introduction of the first electric straddle <\/p>\n<p>carriers at its Barcelona <\/strong>terminal.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hajomech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/1734311380830291-1.jpg\" alt=\"APMT Barcelona progresses in terminal electrification\" title=\"APMT Barcelona progresses in terminal electrification\" style=\"width: 100%; height: 100%; padding:20px 0px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>These carriers will also be the first of their type in the Mediterranean. <\/p>\n<p>Five electric straddle carriers will be deployed in Barcelona as part of APMT\u2019s <\/p>\n<p>$60 million global electrification test program to cut emissions.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Juli\u00e1n Fernandez, CEO of Spanish Gateways in APMT, said: \u201cWe see a huge <\/p>\n<p>potential in further developing our terminals in connection with the overall <\/p>\n<p>logistics infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The Spanish government has allocated around \u20ac3 million ($3.15 million) to <\/p>\n<p>fund the project in Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Jos\u00e9 Alberto Carbonell, President of Port de Barcelona, stated: \u201cThe Port <\/p>\n<p>of Barcelona is on track to reduce its CO2-emissions by half by 2030 and to be <\/p>\n<p>carbon neutral by 2050. To achieve this, we are making progress in the port\u2019s <\/p>\n<p>energy transition, with projects such as the Nexigen plan for the <\/p>\n<p>electrification of quays, the production of renewable energies, and the <\/p>\n<p>promotion of transition fuels and future zero-emission fuels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The trial and testing of equipment in Barcelona is taking place in <\/p>\n<p>collaboration with Konecranes and ZPMC.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Peter Kania, Sales Director of Konecranes Noell Straddle Carriers, said: <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese innovations support eco-efficient operations and set new standards in <\/p>\n<p>decarbonisation.
