DP World and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) <\/p>\n

have signed a loan agreement worth up to \u20ac25 million ($28 million) to support <\/p>\n

the electrification of operations at DP World\u2019s Constan\u021ba South Container <\/p>\n

Terminal.<\/p>\n

The financing is the terminal\u2019s first dedicated green loan and forms part <\/p>\n

of a \u20ac100 million ($114 million) investment programme expected to cut CO2 <\/p>\n

emissions by more than 6,000 tonnes per year.<\/p>\n

According to DP World, ageing diesel-powered equipment will be replaced <\/p>\n

with electric alternatives, while shore power will be introduced for vessels at <\/p>\n

berth, improving air quality, reducing noise and increasing operational <\/p>\n

reliability for customers.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The electrification programme combines the EBRD loan with grants from the <\/p>\n

European Union and the Romanian government.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Alongside the loan, the project includes a \u20ac19.7 million ($22.5 million) <\/p>\n

grant under the EU\u2019s Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF), part of <\/p>\n

the Connecting Europe Facility, with the EBRD acting as the EU\u2019s implementing <\/p>\n

partner. A further \u20ac7.5 million has been secured under Romania\u2019s Transport <\/p>\n

Programme 2021\u20132027.<\/p>\n

The investment is split into two components. The first, worth \u20ac53.8 million <\/p>\n

($61.4 million), will establish core electrification infrastructure, including <\/p>\n

new electrical networks, transformers and distribution facilities, and shore <\/p>\n

power systems allowing vessels to connect to the port grid while berthed.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It also covers a new connection to the main port power station and grid, <\/p>\n

rehabilitation of access roads, and the introduction of 10 electric terminal <\/p>\n

tractors and chargers.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The second component, worth \u20ac46.2 million ($52.7 million), will fund <\/p>\n

equipment including electric, remote-operated rubber-tyred gantry cranes, two <\/p>\n

electric mobile harbour cranes and additional electric terminal tractors.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

investment reflects that fact by aligning the growth of the Constan\u021ba South <\/p>\n

electrifying our operations, we are not just helping customers build more <\/p>\n

resilient and sustainable supply chains, we are also strengthening Constan\u021ba\u2019s <\/p>\n

position as the Black Sea\u2019s leading green container hub.\u201d<\/p>\n
