The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the UN <\/p>\n

Global Compact Network Singapore (GCNS) have signed a Memorandum of <\/p>\n

Understanding (MoU) to enhance the maritime industry\u2019s capacity for carbon <\/p>\n

accounting and management.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"MPA,<\/p>\n

The MoU builds on MPA and GCNS\u2019s long-standing partnership to improve <\/p>\n

maritime sustainability capabilities, including a 2017 MoU to offer maritime <\/p>\n

enterprises with sustainability reporting training.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Under the new MoU signed on 14 August, MPA and GCNS will work with key <\/p>\n

industry associations such as the Association of Regional Ferry Operators, the <\/p>\n

Association of Singapore Marine & Offshore Energy Industries (ASMI), the <\/p>\n

Singapore Association of Shipsuppliers and Services (SASS), and SSA to train <\/p>\n

their members in workshops on how to use the Carbon Emissions Recording Tool <\/p>\n

(CERT) to measure and monitor their companies\u2019 carbon emissions.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The partners will collaborate to create training workshops to meet the <\/p>\n

carbon accounting and management needs of maritime companies, including sharing <\/p>\n

information on green financing and funding schemes that maritime companies can <\/p>\n

use to reduce the cost of deploying low and zero-carbon emission technologies <\/p>\n

and vessel designs.<\/p>\n

Teo Eng Dih, Chief Executive of MPA, said: \u201cThis MoU with GCNS reaffirms <\/p>\n

the importance of carbon accounting and management tools, to help maritime <\/p>\n

companies to accurately measure, report and verify their carbon emissions.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Veronica Lai, Vice President of GCNS, stated: \u201cGCNS is delighted to <\/p>\n

strengthen this vital partnership with MPA and the trade associations of ASMI, <\/p>\n

ARFO, SASS and SSA. We firmly believe that collaboration within the industry is <\/p>\n

essential for advancing Singapore\u2019s maritime decarbonisation efforts, and this <\/p>\n

MoU is a testament of that commitment.\u201d<\/p>\n

In July, MPA and Microsoft signed a MoU to work on new technologies such as <\/p>\n

cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, robots, and <\/p>\n
