Innovate BC is leading an Integrated Marketplace project to add new <\/p>\n

zero and low-emission heavy-duty (HDZEV) trucks to operations at the Port of <\/p>\n

Prince Rupert.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Low-emission<\/p>\n

This project is aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support <\/p>\n

sustainability in the province\u2019s transportation sector.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The HDZEV project will see four new trucks, two hydrogen-powered, one <\/p>\n

battery-electric, and one hydrogen-diesel co-combustion, utilised on existing <\/p>\n

operational routes. These operations will provide data to better understand the <\/p>\n

range, reliability, and potential best use case for the vehicles.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Innovate BC is using the Integrated Marketplace to boost innovation in <\/p>\n

British Columbia by connecting strategic buyers with B.C.-based solution <\/p>\n

providers to implement, scale up, and export B.C. technology solutions. The <\/p>\n

Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) is the testbed partner for the project.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The project received $2.45 million from the Government of British Columbia, <\/p>\n

$3 million from the Government of Canada, and $500,000 from PRPA. This funding <\/p>\n

will be used to purchase zero and low-emission vehicles, as well as to establish <\/p>\n

fuelling, charging, and maintenance infrastructure, including electric vehicle <\/p>\n

chargers and local green hydrogen production.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Other project partners include Velocity Truck Centres, which will support <\/p>\n

the purchase and maintenance of the hydrogen fuel cell, hydrogen-diesel <\/p>\n

co-combustion and battery-electric class eight heavy-duty trucks.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Gat Leedm Logistics will operate the trucks, powered partly by Hydra <\/p>\n

Energy\u2019s hydrogen fuel. NuPort Robotics will install hardware and manage data <\/p>\n

collection and analytics.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Testing will assess performance, technical capability, and feasibility, <\/p>\n

running until the end of 2026.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Integrated Marketplace acts as a platform for partners like Prince <\/p>\n

Rupert Port Authority, which are key contributors to British Columbia\u2019s economic <\/p>\n

growth, to de-risk the adoption of new technologies while supporting the <\/p>\n

decarbonization and innovation goals of their organizations and the province,\u201d <\/p>\n

said Peter Cowan, President and CEO of Innovate BC.<\/p>\n

and generated data inform the greater adoption of zero emission vehicles across <\/p>\n

more industrial sectors here in B.C.\u201d<\/p>\n

help accelerate the Port of Prince Rupert\u2019s continued progress toward <\/p>\n

decarbonizing port operations and to enable greater competitiveness and <\/p>\n

sustainability for Canadian supply chains,\u201d said Shaun Stevenson, President <\/p>\n

& CEO of the Prince Rupert Port Authority.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe utilisation of zero and low-emission vehicles is a key component of <\/p>\n

the Prince Rupert Port Authority\u2019s strategy for reducing port-related carbon <\/p>\n

emissions by a further 30 per cent by 2030 and reaching carbon neutrality by <\/p>\n

2050.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Late last year, the Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) commenced <\/p>\n

construction on the Ridley Island Export Logistics Project (RIELP).<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

More recently, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) put the first two <\/p>\n

electrically powered trucks into operation at its in-house freight forwarder <\/p>\n
