APM Terminals (APMT) Barcelona, along with customers, authorities, <\/p>\n

and workers, has commissioned 17 Konecranes NSC 644 EHY hybrid straddle <\/p>\n

carriers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"APMT<\/p>\n

These versions reportedly consume up to 32.5 per cent less fuel than even <\/p>\n

the most contemporary cranes, lowering the terminal\u2019s yearly CO2 emissions by 50 <\/p>\n

tonnes.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Managing Director of APM Terminals Spanish Gateways, Juli\u00e1n Fern\u00e1ndez, <\/p>\n

said: \u201cIt is, the materialisation of the beginning of our path towards the <\/p>\n

electrification of our equipment, in line with our global objective of reducing <\/p>\n

our emissions by 70 per cent by 2030, and to achieve net zero by 2040.\u201d<\/p>\n

The President of the Port of Barcelona, Llu\u00eds Salvad\u00f3 stated: \u201cAs one of <\/p>\n

the main players in the Port Community of Barcelona, it was important that APMT <\/p>\n

Spanish Gateways was not only involved in the modernisation and decarbonisation <\/p>\n

of our port, but also leading pioneering initiatives, such as the implementation <\/p>\n

of hybrid cranes.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cThese investments help us to become an increasingly competitive and <\/p>\n

sustainable port, supporting the growth of the economy and the well-being of our <\/p>\n

citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In line with the APMT net zero 2040 goals, APMT Barcelona is reportedly <\/p>\n

meeting 7.5 per cent of its energy needs with solar panels and will soon achieve <\/p>\n

emission neutrality with the launch of a major electrification pilot project <\/p>\n

that will test five electric straddle carriers, the first in the <\/p>\n

Mediterranean.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Spanish Government\u2019s Moves Singular Projects II Programme is supporting <\/p>\n

APMT\u2019s revolutionary solution, which is being developed for the first time <\/p>\n

globally.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The hybrid technology employed by APMT Barcelona\u2019s 17 new straddle carriers <\/p>\n

will gradually enter production, replacing existing older equipment in the <\/p>\n

yard\u2019s 74-vehicle container handling fleet.<\/p>\n

In April, Arawak Port Development Limited (APD) ordered a Konecranes <\/p>\n

Gottwald ESP.6 mobile harbour crane to add extra capacity to its terminal at the <\/p>\n
