The Port of Los Angeles and the California Department of <\/p>\n

Transportation (Caltrans) will begin construction this month on a $130 million <\/p>\n

transportation project.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to the port, the transportation project aims to redesign a key <\/p>\n

intersection at State Route 47 (SR 47)\/Vincent Thomas Bridge and Front <\/p>\n

Street\/Harbor Boulevard in San Pedro.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The interchange reconfiguration will reduce travel times, alleviate <\/p>\n

congestion and improve motorist and pedestrian safety at this highly travelled <\/p>\n

roadway juncture.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Los Angeles City Councilmember, Tim McOsker, said: \u201cWe have all experienced <\/p>\n

a significant increase in trucks interfacing with passenger vehicles at the <\/p>\n

Harbor Blvd.\/SR47 Interchange, which is both difficult and dangerous as we work <\/p>\n

to move cargo and as residents go about their daily commute.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m glad that we are breaking ground on this massive project which will <\/p>\n

not only help with traffic safety and the movement of goods but also accommodate <\/p>\n

the exciting redevelopment along the waterfront.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cThis interchange project will greatly enhance traffic safety for our <\/p>\n

communities while improving Port efficiencies and traffic flow. As the nation\u2019s <\/p>\n

largest port complex, we need to maintain and improve our infrastructure to meet <\/p>\n

that demand, including roadways.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The SR 47\/Vincent Thomas Bridge and Front Street\/Harbor Boulevard junction <\/p>\n

now connect San Pedro, Wilmington, Terminal Island, and the West Basin Container <\/p>\n

Terminal.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The reconfiguration project will replace the southbound SR 47 off-ramp from <\/p>\n

the Vincent Thomas Bridge with a new off-ramp on the north side.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The port noted that additional changes include realigning the existing <\/p>\n

on-ramp to the northbound Interstate 110 link, adjusting the northbound SR 47 <\/p>\n

off-ramp into Harbour Boulevard, and changing the northbound SR 47 on-ramp onto <\/p>\n

the bridge towards Terminal Island.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Knoll Drive will reportedly be realigned to facilitate a new on\/off ramp <\/p>\n

system, as part of the street renovations.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Front Street and Harbour Boulevard will be updated with new curbs, storm <\/p>\n

drain improvements, street lighting, traffic signal upgrades, bike lanes, and <\/p>\n

ADA-compliant curb ramps and crosswalks.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Preliminary construction will begin this month, and the project is slated <\/p>\n

to be finished in 2026.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Skanska, a global construction and development corporation, was chosen to <\/p>\n

work on the project by the Port following a competitive bid procedure.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In January, the Port of Los Angeles announced that the newly built <\/p>\n

Wilmington Waterfront Promenade will have its grand opening on 3 February <\/p>\n
