{"id":662,"date":"2026-06-22T10:33:23","date_gmt":"2026-06-22T02:33:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hajomech.com\/port-of-san-diegos-vsr-programme-nears-full-compliance\/"},"modified":"2026-06-22T10:33:23","modified_gmt":"2026-06-22T02:33:23","slug":"port-of-san-diegos-vsr-programme-nears-full-compliance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.hajomech.com\/port-of-san-diegos-vsr-programme-nears-full-compliance\/","title":{"rendered":"Port of San Diego\u2019s VSR programme nears full compliance"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"max-width:900px; margin:0 auto; background-color:rgb(246,246,246); padding:20px;line-height:30px\">\n<p>The Port of San Diego has recognised 24 cargo and shipping carriers for <\/p>\n<p>their participation in its voluntary Vessel Speed Reduction (VSR) Programme, <\/p>\n<p>following a strong compliance performance in 2025.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hajomech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/1782095280469177-1.jpg\" alt=\"Port of San Diego\u2019s VSR programme nears full compliance\" title=\"Port of San Diego\u2019s VSR programme nears full compliance\" style=\"width: 100%; height: 100%; padding:20px 0px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The programme, an objective of the port\u2019s Maritime Clean Air Strategy, asks <\/p>\n<p>cargo vessels to reduce speeds to 12 knots as they approach San Diego Bay.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Last year, the scheme achieved a 94 per cent compliance rate within 20 <\/p>\n<p>nautical miles of the bay and 81 per cent within 40 nautical miles. <\/p>\n<p>Participating vessels collectively cut approximately 6,500 metric tons of <\/p>\n<p>greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Seven carriers were recognised for participation within the <\/p>\n<p>20-nautical-mile zone: Dowa, Grieg Star, Intermarine, MOL, Pasha Hawaiian Lines, <\/p>\n<p>U.S. Army, and Holland America Line.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>A further 17 carriers achieved compliance across both the 20- and <\/p>\n<p>40-nautical-mile zones: Paramount Shipping Services, BigLift, LDC, BBC <\/p>\n<p>Chartering, Dole, Liberty Maritime, Ben Nevis Shipping, CIDO, Pacific Basin, <\/p>\n<p>Zucarmex, HMM, NYK Line, Canada Steamship Lines, Silversea, Viking, Princess <\/p>\n<p>Cruises, and Disney Cruise Line.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Chair Ann Moore of the Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners said: <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe success of the Vessel Speed Reduction Program shows what\u2019s possible when <\/p>\n<p>industry partners work together to support cleaner air and healthier <\/p>\n<p>communities.
