(MOL) has announced that it has completed <\/p>\n<p>an insetting trial with 123Carbon B.V. that involves tokenising the GHG emission <\/p>\n<p>reductions from the Net Zero Voyage.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hajomech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/1708134101129880-1.jpg\" alt=\"MOL, 123Carbon partner to tokenise GHG emission reductions\" title=\"MOL, 123Carbon partner to tokenise GHG emission reductions\" style=\"width: 100%; height: 100%; padding:20px 0px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>This enables MOL to distribute GHG emission reductions from the use of <\/p>\n<p>bio-methanol as a fuel to clients who are considering Scope 3 reductions from <\/p>\n<p>marine transport services, using the Smart Freight Centre\u2019s Market Based <\/p>\n<p>Measures accounting framework.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>MOL will reportedly expand on this basis by developing services to assist <\/p>\n<p>its clients in meeting their Scope 3 reduction objectives.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>MOL, with the assistance of Methanex, conducted third-party verification of <\/p>\n<p>GHG emission reduction-related documentation to establish their authenticity and <\/p>\n<p>MOL\u2019s ownership of the associated Scope 3 GHG reductions from the use of <\/p>\n<p>bio-methanol as fuel.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The digital certificates provided after verification are handled by <\/p>\n<p>blockchain technology, which records the transaction history.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>According to MOL, users who have been given tokens can claim GHG emission <\/p>\n<p>reductions and have access to reduction-related data on the platform (vessel <\/p>\n<p>names, reduction techniques, bunker date of low emission fuel, emission factors <\/p>\n<p>used in reduction calculations, name of third-party verifier, etc.).<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>These procedures, for which 123Carbon provides tools, enable the <\/p>\n<p>dependability and transparency of GHG emission reductions given to <\/p>\n<p>consumers.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Christoph Wolff, Chief Executive Officer of Smart Freight Centre, <\/p>\n<p>commented: \u201cThis initiative is categorised to be carbon insetting, which <\/p>\n<p>promotes decarbonisation within the supply chain.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Market Based Measures Accounting Framework provides a standard <\/p>\n<p>framework for companies to rely on when expanding their insetting programs, in <\/p>\n<p>response to growing demand for insetting in the transport sector, including <\/p>\n<p>shipping.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMOL, which has one of the world\u2019s largest fleet, starting its carbon <\/p>\n<p>insetting initiative is a significant step forward towards achieving the net <\/p>\n<p>zero target in the shipping industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>Recently, MOL and JX Nippon Oil &amp; Gas Exploration Corporation (JX) <\/p>\n<p>signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a Carbon dioxide Capture <\/p>\n<p>and Storage (CCS) value chain between Japan and Australia<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mitsui O.S.K.
