Ports of Stockholm, in collaboration with many other ports and <\/p>\n

stakeholders, has received approval to apply for EU funding for three <\/p>\n

sustainability initiatives.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Ports<\/p>\n

The major focus of the projects is the development of the electricity <\/p>\n

infrastructure. This will reportedly support the transition to greener shipping <\/p>\n

by lowering quayside air particle emissions.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Government approval has been given for all three applications from Ports of <\/p>\n

Stockholm, in collaboration with other ports, to be submitted to the EU <\/p>\n

Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) to apply for grant funding.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The goals include augmenting the electricity infrastructure by increasing <\/p>\n

onshore power connections at Ports of Stockholm and other ports. This is <\/p>\n

intended to ensure the transition to more sustainable shipping with minimal <\/p>\n

quayside air particle emissions.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The development of onshore power connections for container and passenger <\/p>\n

ships in core ports is one of the 2030 targets of the EU climate goals and \u201cFit <\/p>\n

for 55\u201d conversion to a greener shipping policy.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

If the projects are awarded EU funding, they will run between 2024 and <\/p>\n

2025, or until 2026 at the latest.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cTogether with other ports and stakeholders, we want to enable the rapid <\/p>\n

and safe expansion of onshore power connections for vessels at the quayside <\/p>\n

throughout the entire Baltic Sea region,\u201d said Jens Holm, Chair of the Board of <\/p>\n

Ports of Stockholm.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cThis positive decision from the Swedish Government shows the increased <\/p>\n

electrification of the transport sector, with a focus on shipping, is a <\/p>\n

prioritised area. This expansion will result in a greater ability to meet our <\/p>\n

own and the EU environmental goals.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cNational and international collaborations with other ports and <\/p>\n

stakeholders in these types of projects are important factors for future success <\/p>\n

in achieving environmentally beneficial results for port operations and shipping <\/p>\n

in general,\u201d explained Lotta Andersson, Public Affairs and EU Coordinator.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe see an obvious added value in using external funding in the form of EU <\/p>\n

grants to be able to accelerate our environmental initiatives, in this case our <\/p>\n

proposals for onshore power connections at the quayside.\u201d<\/p>\n
