UK Maritime Minister, Lord Davies, has announced the winners of \u00a333 <\/p>\n

million ($42 million) of government funding to develop green technologies for <\/p>\n

ports and ships. <\/strong><\/p>\n

This is to accelerate the UK\u2019s race to decarbonise the sector while <\/p>\n

supporting jobs in coastal communities across the country, helping grow the <\/p>\n

economy in the long term.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The \u00a333 million ($42 million) has been awarded to 33 projects across all 12 <\/p>\n

regions of the UK to deliver demonstrations, factory trials, and feasibility <\/p>\n

studies.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

These initiatives position the UK as a leader in emerging clean maritime <\/p>\n

technologies, fostering sustainable high-skilled jobs across the country and <\/p>\n

boosting coastal economies.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The funding comes from the fourth round of the government\u2019s Clean Maritime <\/p>\n

Demonstration Competition (CMDC4), which focuses on developing a range of clean <\/p>\n

maritime technologies including electric, hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, wind <\/p>\n

power and more.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Lord Davies visited two of the winning organisations, Aqua SuperPower and <\/p>\n

RS Marine Group, in Southampton, to see their pioneering network of electric <\/p>\n

chargepoints and electric vessels in action.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Thanks to CMDC4, the winners will work together to build on their existing <\/p>\n

electric infrastructure to provide electricity back to ports, harbours, and the <\/p>\n

grid when the vessels are not in use. CMDC4 builds on three successful previous <\/p>\n

rounds, which allocated over \u00a395 million ($121 million) to 105 projects and <\/p>\n

leveraged over \u00a345 million ($57.3 million) in private investment.<\/p>\n

The latest funding comes from the wider \u00a3206 million ($262 million) UK <\/p>\n

Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE) programme, announced in March <\/p>\n

2022.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

future landscape of the maritime industry and support jobs in coastal <\/p>\n

accelerate our industry\u2019s journey to net zero emissions and mark a new era in <\/p>\n

maritime history. Many of our members are pioneering electric vessels and <\/p>\n

charging ports, in turn, contributing to environmental sustainability, job <\/p>\n

creation and the UK\u2019s levelling-up agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n

In September 2023, the UK government announced the winners of the Zero <\/p>\n

Emission Vessel and Infrastructure Fund (ZEVI), where coastal communities around <\/p>\n

the country will receive over \u00a380 million ($100 million) in government <\/p>\n

investment, promoting economic growth and the UK\u2019s efforts to reduce carbon <\/p>\n
