Associated British Ports (ABP) and BW Ideol AS, a pioneer in <\/p>\n

offshore floating wind, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to <\/p>\n

investigate the feasibility of serialised production of concrete substructures <\/p>\n

for floating offshore wind turbine foundations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This investigation will reportedly be based on the BW Ideol design at ABP\u2019s <\/p>\n

Port Talbot.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This agreement has been signed in preparation for the forthcoming Celtic <\/p>\n

Sea leasing round announced by The Crown Estate offering a market of significant <\/p>\n

multi-gigawatt (GW) development potential.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Port Talbot, located about 120-140 miles from The Crown Estate\u2019s present <\/p>\n

Project Development Areas, is well situated as a manufacturing location for BW <\/p>\n

Ideol\u2019s technology.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Port Talbot is reportedly the only port in the Celtic Sea with the scale \u2013 <\/p>\n

both in terms of marine and brownfield land space availability \u2013 and <\/p>\n

technological capability to fully exploit the Celtic Sea supply chain potential <\/p>\n

and the associated employment and economic advantages.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

ABP owns and operates Port Talbot, as well as approximately 20 other ports <\/p>\n

around the UK. ABP intends to invest more than \u00a3500 million ($634 million) in <\/p>\n

Port Talbot to make it a major Floating Offshore Wind (FLOW) centre.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The investment is part of ABP\u2019s \u2018Ready for Tomorrow\u2019 sustainability <\/p>\n

strategy, which was launched earlier in 2023 and outlines plans for ABP and <\/p>\n

partners to invest \u00a32 billion ($2.5 bullion) in decarbonising its own operations <\/p>\n

by 2040 and supporting large-scale green energy infrastructure and industrial <\/p>\n

decarbonisation projects.<\/p>\n

Paul de la Gu\u00e9rivi\u00e8re, CEO of BW Ideol, said: \u201cWe can\u2019t wait to start <\/p>\n

working with ABP at Port Talbot and we have no doubt that it will confirm that <\/p>\n

our patented concrete floating solution, which is the most compact and scalable <\/p>\n

solution on the market, is manufacturable at a large scale and will be able to <\/p>\n

equip future installation sites in the Celtic Sea while providing the highest <\/p>\n

level of local content.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have already demonstrated it in Scotland where we have developed <\/p>\n

fabrication methods able to provide floaters for the equivalent of 1 GW per <\/p>\n

year.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Andy Reay, ABP Head of Offshore Wind, said: \u201cWe are delighted to be working <\/p>\n

with BW Ideol to understand the technology needed to turn Port Talbot into a <\/p>\n

thriving FLOW energy hub.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cABP is looking to invest in new and repurposed infrastructure in Port <\/p>\n

Talbot to enable the port to host manufacturing, installation and supply chain <\/p>\n

activity for the FLOW sector, and are currently exploring the option of <\/p>\n

constructing heavy lift quays to link onshore storage land to the marine <\/p>\n

environment and create a GW-scale opportunity.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis has the potential to create 16,000 new, high-quality jobs and attract <\/p>\n

\u00a35.5 billion ($6.9 billion) inward investment in the wider regional economy. <\/p>\n

This agreement is an important step towards realising this ambition.\u201d<\/p>\n

In November, the UK Major Ports Group (UKMPG) announced that Henrik L. <\/p>\n

Pedersen, Chief Executive Officer of ABP, will become the organisation\u2019s next <\/p>\n
