Evergreen Marine Corp. has finished a systematic inspection and <\/p>\n

computation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory for its commercial <\/p>\n

activities in Taiwan<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In late July, the British Standards Institution (BSI) approved the survey <\/p>\n

methodology and results in accordance with ISO14064-1:2018 and the GHG <\/p>\n

Protocol.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Governments throughout the globe have established carbon reduction targets <\/p>\n

in response to the impact of climate change and the international community\u2019s <\/p>\n

worries about sustainability issues.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Taiwanese Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) also released its <\/p>\n

\u2018Sustainable Development Roadmap for listed corporations\u2019 in March of this year, <\/p>\n

mandating corporations to reveal their GHG mission inventories in phases.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Listed companies such as Evergreen Marine, with a capital of more than <\/p>\n

NTD10 billion ($315 million) must complete the survey of their GHG emission <\/p>\n

sources and inventories next year, and obtain third-party verification by <\/p>\n

2024.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Furthermore, surveys and verification of its subsidiaries are due in 2025 <\/p>\n

and 2027, respectively.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Evergreen Marine developed a task force responsible for inspecting its GHG <\/p>\n

inventory and designing a carbon footprint platform in order to comply with <\/p>\n

relevant legislation and satisfy diverse information requests concerning GHG <\/p>\n

emissions from customers and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The company is reportedly using advanced technologies to build a fleet of <\/p>\n

eco-friendly vessels, which comply with the International Maritime Organization <\/p>\n

(IMO)\u2019s Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) regulations and enable best <\/p>\n

fuel efficiency, and continues to replace old ships with new ones.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

At present, 80 per cent of ships in its operating fleet are less than 10 <\/p>\n

years old. This young fleet allows the carrier to operate with maximum <\/p>\n

efficiency in providing transportation service with lower energy <\/p>\n

consumption.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Contributing to this efficiency, Evergreen\u2019s investment in the 7th <\/p>\n

Container Center in Kaohsiung is expected to come to fruition with operations <\/p>\n

beginning in the second half of next year.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The terminal will eventually replace present activities at the 4th and 5th <\/p>\n

Container Centres\u2019 independent transit hubs, which are located in distinct areas <\/p>\n

of the port.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Consolidating activities at the brand new transit hub will significantly <\/p>\n

minimise shunting of transshipments between the two ports and remove carbon <\/p>\n

emissions associated with such transportation.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Evergreen has set proactive carbon reduction targets based on its 2008 <\/p>\n

carbon emissions levels, including a 50 per cent reduction in CO2 emission rate <\/p>\n

(g\/TEU-km) by 2030, a 70 per cent reduction in emission rate by 2050, and a 50 <\/p>\n

per cent reduction in overall emission volumes by 2050.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In June 2023, oil company, ExxonMobil, and Evergreen Line successfully <\/p>\n

completed a commercial marine biofuel oil bunkering in the Port of <\/p>\n
