{"id":875,"date":"2023-08-02T10:45:41","date_gmt":"2023-08-02T02:45:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hajomech.com\/imo-ratifies-net-zero-target-by-or-around-2050\/"},"modified":"2023-08-02T10:45:41","modified_gmt":"2023-08-02T02:45:41","slug":"imo-ratifies-net-zero-target-by-or-around-2050","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.hajomech.com\/imo-ratifies-net-zero-target-by-or-around-2050\/","title":{"rendered":"IMO ratifies net-zero target \u2018by or around 2050\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"max-width:900px; margin:0 auto; background-color:rgb(246,246,246); padding:20px; line-height:25px; text-align: justify;\">\n<p><strong>The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted the 2023 <\/p>\n<p>IMO Strategy on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships at the Marine <\/p>\n<p>Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 80).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hajomech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/1690942957337491-1.jpg\" alt=\"IMO ratifies net-zero target \u2018by or around 2050\u2019\" title=\"IMO ratifies net-zero target \u2018by or around 2050\u2019\" style=\"width: 100%; height: 100%; padding:15px 0px\"\/><\/p>\n<p>This comes four months after an IMO working group made progress in <\/p>\n<p>developing the draft 2023 IMO Strategy on reduction of GHG emissions from <\/p>\n<p>ships.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>The updated IMO GHG Strategy contains an increased shared objective to <\/p>\n<p>achieve net-zero GHG emissions from international shipping \u201cby or around 2050\u201d, <\/p>\n<p>a commitment to ensure the use of alternative zero and near-zero GHG fuels by <\/p>\n<p>2030, and indicative check-points for 2030 and 2040.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim said: \u201cThe adoption of the 2023 IMO <\/p>\n<p>Greenhouse Gas Strategy is a monumental development for IMO and opens a new <\/p>\n<p>chapter towards maritime decarbonisation.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, with the Revised Strategy that you have now agreed on, we have a <\/p>\n<p>clear direction, a common vision, and ambitious targets to guide us to deliver <\/p>\n<p>what the world expects from us.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAbove all, it is particularly meaningful, to have unanimous support from <\/p>\n<p>all Member States.
