The Ports of Bilbao and Amsterdam have signed a Memorandum of <\/p>\n

Understanding (MoU) for the development of a renewable hydrogen corridor along with several other partners<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"Ports<\/p>\n

Others party to this deal include the Energy Agency of the Basque <\/p>\n

Government (EVE), Petronor, SkyNRG, Evos Amsterdam, and Zenith Energy <\/p>\n

Terminals.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The establishment of a corridor between the ports of Bilbao and Amsterdam <\/p>\n

will connect two rapidly developing hydrogen valleys.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The King of the Netherlands, Willem-Alexander, the Dutch Minister, Rob <\/p>\n

Jetten, and the Spanish Minister, Teresa Ribera, attended the signing ceremony <\/p>\n

as official witnesses.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The MoU states the parties will team up to develop a renewable hydrogen <\/p>\n

supply chain, focusing on production in the Basque Country and export to the <\/p>\n

Netherlands and the European hinterland through the Port of Amsterdam.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

According to a statement released by the Port of Amsterdam, this fits with <\/p>\n

the wider Basque Hydrogen Strategy, developed by EVE, which is aimed at both <\/p>\n

local usage and international markets, and the Dutch government\u2019s stimulation of <\/p>\n

the production, import, and use of hydrogen.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Port of Bilbao is part of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor, a collaboration <\/p>\n

spearheaded by oil and gas company, Petronor, and energy company, Repsol, to <\/p>\n

decarbonise the energy, industrial, residential, and mobility sectors.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Petronor is committed to developing a broad range of renewable fuels and to <\/p>\n

creating a hub in Bilbao that will compose a synthetic fuels plant and an urban <\/p>\n

waste processing project.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Thus, Petronor and Repsol, together with EVE and other companies, are <\/p>\n

developing the construction of electrolysers to produce renewable hydrogen, with <\/p>\n

a total capacity of 113 Megawatts (MW), and a demonstration plant to produce <\/p>\n

hydrogen-based e-fuels, the first synthetic fuel plant in Spain.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The partners are developing another project focused on a municipal waste <\/p>\n

pyrolysis plant, which aligns with Repsol\u2019s strategy of promoting the circular <\/p>\n

economy.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This will make use of modern technologies to decarbonise processes in <\/p>\n

Petronor.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Port of Bilbao features multiple of these projects and will serve as a <\/p>\n

hub for the export of renewable hydrogen and its derivatives.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Dutch Minister for Climate and Energy Policy, Rob Jetten, stated: <\/p>\n

\u201cInternational collaboration is essential to develop the hydrogen market and the <\/p>\n

associated infrastructure.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cWithin the EU, Spain offers plenty of opportunities and is therefore one <\/p>\n

of our most important hydrogen partners,\u201d Jetten added.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Carlos Alzaga, Managing Director of the Port of Bilbao Authority said: \u201cThe <\/p>\n

Port of Bilbao is fully committed to the production, transport, and use of <\/p>\n

renewable energies and supports and works together with those companies that are <\/p>\n

developing green sources of energies.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cGreen hydrogen is one of the most important paths for that goal,\u201d Alzaga <\/p>\n

added.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, the Port Authority of Bilbao approved the call for <\/p>\n

tenders for the construction and operation of a container terminal on the <\/p>\n

central quay.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

More recently, British shipping company Ellerman City Liners announced the <\/p>\n

launch of its weekly direct service between the Port of Bilbao and the US East <\/p>\n
