Shipping giant Maersk has successfully launched its first feeder <\/p>\n

vessel powered by methanol at the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, on its way to cut <\/p>\n

carbon emissions.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The feeder was launched on 4 April by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South <\/p>\n

Korea.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The ship, which will join the fleet in the summer of this year, is the <\/p>\n

shipping heavyweight\u2019s first carbon-neutral vessel.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The ship was ordered in 2021 and has a capacity of about 2,000 TEU.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Although the ship will be able to run on regular very-low sulphur fuel oil <\/p>\n

(VLSFO), it will first be run on carbon-neutral e-methanol or sustainable <\/p>\n

bio-methanol.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The vessel\u2019s main and auxiliary engines can both run on green methanol.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Henrik Ekmann, Head of Newbuilding & Retrofit at Maersk said: \u201cThe <\/p>\n

launching was successfully completed at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and the <\/p>\n

construction is continuing.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cLaunching these mega structures takes precision and care, extensive <\/p>\n

product and design development from a large number of key suppliers and driven <\/p>\n

forward by our Procurement and Fleet Technology teams.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

This milestone comes less than a month after Maersk signed a Memorandum of <\/p>\n

Understanding (MoU) with Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) on strategic <\/p>\n

cooperation for Shanghai port\u2019s methanol marine fuel project.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In the same week, WinGD announced that it will supply 10X92DF-M <\/p>\n

methanol-fuelled engines to four 16,000 TEU containerships for COSCO SHIPPING <\/p>\n
