Japanese shipping giant, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has signed a <\/p>\n

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build a clean hydrogen and ammonia value <\/p>\n

chain derived from renewable energy sources in southern Thailand.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"MOL<\/p>\n

The MoU was signed with Mitsubishi Thailand, Chiyoda, and Electricity <\/p>\n

Generation Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Thailand\u2019s state-owned power generation <\/p>\n

company.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The signing ceremony was held at the Asia Zero Emissions Community (AZEC) <\/p>\n

Ministerial Meeting held in Tokyo on 4 March.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The MoU stipulates that MOL, Mitsubishi Thailand, and Chiyoda will <\/p>\n

cooperate with EGAT in decarbonisation projects to achieve the nation\u2019s <\/p>\n

decarbonisation targets.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The companies will jointly study ways to establish a series of supply <\/p>\n

chains for the production, storage, transport, and utilisation of clean hydrogen <\/p>\n

and ammonia derived from renewable energy sources in southern Thailand, and <\/p>\n

supplying them to domestic and international markets.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Thailand is positioned as a key country in the Japanese government\u2019s AZEC <\/p>\n

concept, and the movement toward carbon neutrality is expected to further <\/p>\n

accelerate in the future.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Through the MoU, MOL and its partners will study safe and efficient methods <\/p>\n

of transporting hydrogen and ammonia.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

MOL will also contribute to the development of the clean energy sector in <\/p>\n

Thailand and initiatives on carbon neutrality around the world by proceeding <\/p>\n

with the study in collaboration with EGAT, Mitsubishi Thailand, and Chiyoda.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The MOL Group set forth the \u201cMOL Group Environmental Vision 2.1\u201d to promote <\/p>\n

the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the group and from society <\/p>\n

at large through a concerted group-wide effort and contribute to the <\/p>\n

establishment of a supply chain for clean energy resources such as ammonia and <\/p>\n

hydrogen.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In January 2023, MOL\u2019s CEO, Takeshi Hashimoto, announced MOL\u2019s plans to <\/p>\n

continue its energy transport business from Russia indefinitely, particularly of <\/p>\n
