Valenciaport tenders €1.7m marine renewables systems
The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) has launched a tender for the design,
supply and installation of two marine renewable energy systems across its port
estate.
The two systems in question are an electrical power evacuation unit from a
floating photovoltaic plant, to be connected to the Port of Valencia’s
medium-voltage grid, and a second system drawing from a wave power plant linked
to the Port of Sagunto’s medium-voltage network.
The combined budget exceeds €1.7 million ($1.9 million), with an 11-month
completion window.
The work sits within RENMARINAS DEMOS, an EU-backed initiative funded
through the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed via Next
Generation EU, and administered through Spain’s Institute for Energy
Diversification and Saving (IDAE).
The project covers offshore wind, wave, tidal and other marine renewable
technologies, and spans research, prototype validation, knowledge transfer and
real-world demonstration.
For Valenciaport, the installations form part of a broader Net Zero
Emissions Plan targeting decarbonisation across the ports of Valencia, Sagunto
and Gandía.
Each sub-sector of the port community is subject to tailored action plans
under that framework, with projects such as RENMARINAS DEMOS feeding directly
into its delivery.
Beyond the immediate infrastructure works, the initiative is designed to
foster collaboration between businesses, research centres, universities and
public authorities at national and international levels, with the stated aim of
building knowledge networks that accelerate progress in marine energy
integration.
The twin-port scope is notable: positioning both Valencia and Sagunto as
applied innovation hubs rather than treating renewables as a single-site
exercise.
Integrating floating solar and wave energy into existing medium-voltage
port grids also presents a replicable model for other European ports navigating
similar decarbonisation mandates.
Recently, APV welcomed an institutional delegation from the Port of Long
Beach for a working session centred on sustainability, decarbonisation and the
advancement of green corridors.
