DHL, CMA CGM collaborate on low-carbon maritime transport
DHL Global Forwarding and CMA CGM jointly used 8,990 metric tonnes of UCOME second-generation biofuel, enabling an estimated 25,000 metric tonnes of CO2e well-to-wake reductions for ocean freight under DHL’s GoGreen Plus service.

The initiative allows customers to lower the carbon intensity of international shipments while supporting the industry’s shift to alternative marine fuels.
Casper Ellerbaek, Head of Global Ocean Freight at DHL Global Forwarding, said: “This collaboration marks another milestone in our mission towards low-carbon supply chains. By leveraging sustainable marine fuels, we help our customers achieve their climate goals and drive real progress toward decarbonisation.”
Through DHL’s GoGreen Plus and CMA CGM’s ACT+ offerings, shippers can integrate low-carbon maritime transport into their logistics operations.
CMA CGM will bunker the biofuel across its fleet, while GoGreen Plus enables customers to reduce well-to-wake emissions by up to 80 per cent compared with conventional fuel.
Olivier Nivoix, Executive Vice President Shipping at CMA CGM, added: “Our partnership with DHL demonstrates how collaboration can accelerate the shift to low-carbon shipping.
“ACT+ offers scalable solutions using alternative fuels, supporting CMA CGM’s Net Zero Carbon by 2050 target. The company has cut the carbon intensity of its shipping activities by 57 per cent since 2008 and continues to invest in biofuels and dual-fuel vessels.”
Both companies plan to explore further opportunities to scale low-carbon fuel usage and decarbonise international supply chains.
Recently, CMA CGM informed customers that it will no longer serve Port Elizabeth from the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East Gulf.
