Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) to supply clean marine fuel.

This MoU will focus on bunkering methanol and LNG at Shanghai Port. It also addresses carbon reduction targets, promotes worldwide shipping new energy cooperation and aids in shipping energy transformation and sustainable development.

HMM has pledged to achieve a net-zero emissions objective for the whole business by 2050. To achieve this goal, it is important to develop port bunkering infrastructure for clean marine fuel.

HMM is constantly developing to create sustainable eco-supply chain networks at Shanghai Port and other major ports such as Singapore and Busan.

HMM has also signed new building contracts for nine 9,000 TEU methanol-powered vessels, with intentions to operate two 7,700 TEU LNG-powered tankers by the end of the year.

SIPG continues to become a front-runner in promoting the development of green and ecological ports. Since 2022, SIPG has provided bonded LNG bunkering services for many shipping companies worldwide.

According to HMM, all preparations for green methanol bunkering in Shanghai Port have been completed.

An HMM official said: “Through this cooperation with SIPG, we have expanded our green fuel supply chain in China, following Korea and Singapore. We will continue to strive for various efforts to find a way to go green.”

In March, HMM assisted Hellmann Worldwide Logistics (Hellmann) in reducing carbon emissions by implementing the Green Sailing Service, an eco-friendly transportation solution.
